an eulogy for nainital

i know
you are dying
slowly
but surely
suffering from the cancer
of materialistic greed
disfigured and mutilated
by the malignant growth
of lust

you were
in your prime
much loved and wanted
by suitor
still mesmerized by you
unparreled charm
charm
which is now being used as a bait
to attract
prospective buyers
who have turned you into a cheap whore

the doctors
treating you
are making good their pound of flesh
your kimsmen are busy
in making the most out of your residual glowry
you are up for sale
you are out for grab
oblivious of the fact that
somewhere a banshee sings a faint dirge

i see you in pain
but i know
it wont last for long
i see death
close
and getting closer
slowly and steadily
and will soon engulf you
from within and without

the emerald of the lake
will turn scarlet
the mountains will tumble down
the earth will shake
the sky will fall
and a shroud of virgin snow
will cover you for 100 years

life will
again then
sprout anew
